About Paula Phillips
Paula J. Phillips, Shareholder and Litigation Chair at Phillips Perez, P.A., brings twenty-five years of experience as a civil litigator and trial attorney. Her practice spans a wide range of areas, including trucking law, aviation, franchise law, product liability, construction, insurance claims defense, professional malpractice, premises liability, personal injury, complex subrogation cases, and appeals. She is licensed to practice in all Florida state courts, the United States District Courts for the Southern, Middle, and Northern Districts of Florida, and the United States Circuit Courts of Appeal for the Tenth and Eleventh Circuits.
Ms. Phillips’ career highlights include serving alongside the late F. Lee Bailey in her early years and representing clients like Valujet in the aftermath of the Florida Everglades crash while with Anania Bandklayder. At Hinshaw & Culbertson, she worked with Lucent Technologies and an insurance group on a subrogation matter involving a significant chemical spill. Recently, Ms. Phillips argued pro bono before the Honorable Neil Gorsuch on the United States Circuit Court of Appeals for the Tenth Circuit, prior to his appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.
Her achievements also extend to appellate advocacy, where she successfully upheld a decision requiring policyholders to seek relief through the Office of Insurance Regulation in cases related to premium refunds. Her clients have included major corporations such as Quiznos, Dunkin’ Donuts, BP, Shell Oil, American Airlines, Delta Airlines, and Citizens Property Insurance Corporation.
Before founding Phillips Perez, P.A., Ms. Phillips led the Insurance Litigation Division at Zumpano Castro, LLC, and previously served as a senior associate at Cole Scott & Kissane, where she chaired the First Party Property division. Additionally, she is certified by the Florida Department of Financial Services to provide continuing education for insurance professionals.
