About Heather A. McPherson

Heather is a Freeport native and a proud alumna of Freeport High School. Following her undergraduate studies at Beloit College in Wisconsin, where she earned a B.A. in Economics, Heather pursued her legal education at Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee. After obtaining her law degree, she returned to her hometown to join her father, Malcolm C. McPherson, in his legal practice, where they work together to this day.

Practicing in estate planning, estate and trust administration, estate and trust litigation, guardianships, real estate, and elder law, Heather is licensed to practice in both Illinois and Wisconsin. She has been an active participant in the Illinois State Bar Association since 2004, serving as the chair of the Elder Law Section Council between 2009 and 2010, and is currently a member of the Trusts & Estates Section. Her involvement with the association extends to several legislative initiatives.

Heather is also well-known for her contributions to continuing legal education, regularly speaking at seminars and authoring numerous articles. Additionally, she has co-edited the "Survey of Illinois Law: Elder Law" section in the Southern Illinois Law Journal for many years. Committed to her community, Heather is involved with local organizations like the Freeport Art Museum and FHN Foundation, serving on various boards and engaging in volunteer activities. Outside of her professional and community commitments, she cherishes time with her family and enjoys golfing, skiing, and exploring new destinations through travel.
