About Lynne Milford
After enjoying more than three decades of annual visits to Colorado, Lynne and her husband made a recent life-changing decision to relocate to the state in order to be closer to their daughter. Lynne has been an esteemed member of the Rutherford Law Center since 2022, practicing family law for 30 years primarily in Texas. Hailing from Pennsylvania, she graduated from Penn State in 1985 and later earned her Juris Doctor degree from Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law in 1989. Her legal expertise has centered on diverse aspects of family law, specializing in divorce, child-related issues such as support and modifications, and facilitating step-parent adoptions. Additionally, Lynne holds qualifications as a family law mediator and ardently believes in the collaborative approach to resolving disputes.
Early in her professional journey, Lynne recognized that employing the traditional litigation method in family law cases often caused unnecessary and enduring harm to families. The adversarial nature of traditional litigation, governed by complex rules and court procedures, wasn't tailored for dealing with intimate family matters, where the involved parties typically maintain some ongoing familial relationship post-litigation. This approach predominantly delves into past events, aiming to address wrongs committed previously, yet it fails to assist families in moving beyond perceived wrongs, healing relationships, or focusing on future goals due to its retrospective focus.
While acknowledging that traditional litigation remains sometimes necessary to resolve family disputes, Lynne advocates it should be a rare choice for family matters. Instead, she champions mediation as an increasingly preferred tool by the judiciary to settle family law disputes. Mediation facilitates settling disputes in a private setting, empowering families with control over the outcomes.
