About Brian C. Nelson

Attorney Brian C. Nelson obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Indiana University in 2012, followed by his Juris Doctorate in 2016 from the same institution, focusing his legal studies on trial advocacy and criminal defense. During his time in law school, Nelson dedicated himself to these fields, engaging in a wide array of relevant courses and clinics. In his second year, he interned at the Marion County Prosecutors Office before transitioning to clerk for a private criminal defense attorney. His involvement extended to serving on the board of his legal fraternity and actively participating in his school's trial advocacy team during his final two years.

Returning to Wisconsin in June 2021, Nelson continued his legal career as a public defender in the Milwaukee Trial Division. He made a substantial impact by challenging the preliminary hearing process implemented during the pandemic, leading to the dismissal of numerous cases and prompting the Milwaukee District Attorney’s office to revise their procedures. Joining the Van Severen Law Office in May 2021, Nelson eagerly anticipates furthering his commitment to assisting defendants in their legal battles.
