About Kevin Shields

Kevin, now associated with Shields Law Firm, is dedicated to assisting children and families dealing with special needs issues across Texas. His journey began as a general education teacher advocating for increased inclusion time and challenging providers who missed sessions for his students. At IEP meetings, he consistently voiced dissent, prompting him to consider a career in law.

Kevin's foray into special needs law started fourteen years ago during law school. Concurrently, he participated in a law-students-to-public-schools program at Georgetown, teaching high school classes in inner-city DC. By the time he graduated from law school, Kevin had already provided legal representation for over a dozen children, handling matters such as juvenile cases, school advocacy, superior court trials, and a federal grand jury investigation.

Post-law school, Kevin joined one of the nation's largest law firms, specializing in federal practice. While there, he amassed extensive experience in handling disability and discrimination cases, even meeting his future wife. Despite numerous successful litigations and settlements, Kevin missed the sense of purpose he felt while advocating for students. Eight years, three children, and two dogs later, he founded a boutique law firm exclusively focusing on special needs matters. Today, Kevin is proud to serve families like yours, bringing his passion and expertise to the forefront of special needs advocacy.
