CDL Disqualifications In Illinois

There are many ways that Illinois residents can lose their commercial driver’s license. Drivers are often surprised to learn that this includes traffic offenses that occurred while driving a non-commercial vehicle. Illinois law holds commercial drivers to a higher standard. Your CDL can be disqualified for the following reasons:

	Railroad-Highway Crossing Offenses - This includes any improper action taken during a railroad crossing. These offenses result in at least a 60 day disqualification of your CDL
	Serious Traffic Violations - These are not quite as serious as Major Offenses, and they can result in a 60 disqualification for first offenders. They include reckless driving, improper lane changes, and using a cell phone while driving.
	Out-of-service Violations - Drivers caught operating in violation of an out-of-service can face harsh penalties. This includes license disqualification for up to a year for first offenders, and up to five years for a second offense.
