About Sylvia Grace Acosta

Ms. Acosta is a distinguished attorney, holding an AV rating, with extensive experience in trial, arbitration, and mediation. She has consistently been recognized among Utah's Legal Elite for several years. Her diverse practice areas encompass family law, workers' compensation law, personal injury, business law, and wills and trusts.

Furthermore, Ms. Acosta has a rich history of service in the legal community. She served as the President of the Utah Minority Bar Association from 2009 to 2010 and held positions as an ex-officio member of the Utah Bar Commission from 2010 to 2011 and as a Utah Bar Commissioner from 2016 to 2019. Notably, she previously worked as a law clerk to Judge William A. Thorne of the Utah Court of Appeals and to the Honorable John F. Wright of the Nebraska Supreme Court. She earned her academic honors JD in 1997 from the University of Nebraska, following her 1994 graduation from Auburn University with a B.S. in psychology and English.

Ms. Acosta also actively contributed to the legal landscape by serving on the Utah Supreme Court ethics committee, where she adjudicated bar complaints from 2008 to 2012. Her legal prowess extends to the role of a judge pro tempe, presiding over small claims cases in Salt Lake City Small Claims Court, and she is fluent in Spanish.

Her commitment to the legal profession and the community is evidenced by her roles on the Utah Multicultural Legal Center Board of Directors from 2006 to 2009 and her involvement in the career development committee for the Women Lawyers of Utah. Additionally, she was appointed by the Governor to the Judicial Nominating Commission for the Third District of Utah from 2014 to 2018. Ms. Acosta's achievements extend beyond her legal practice. She was admitted as a fellow to the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America, an invitation-only trial lawyer honor society with limited membership, and she was featured in the Spring 2016 Attorney at Law magazine.
