Mr. Melehy launched his legal career in 1987 as a judicial law clerk for Judge William H. Adkins, II of the Maryland Court of Appeals. He then spent eight years serving as an Assistant Attorney General in the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, where he developed significant trial experience. Since 1997, Mr. Melehy has focused his practice on advocating for employees in disputes with their employers, handling cases involving wage and hour violations, workplace discrimination, and other employment-related matters against both private companies and federal government agencies. Throughout his career, he and his firm have successfully secured substantial settlements and achieved numerous favorable verdicts and judgments for their clients. He also brings extensive appellate experience in Maryland and Washington, D.C., with many of his cases resulting in precedent-setting rulings.
Widely respected in the legal community, Mr. Melehy holds an AV Preeminent Rating (5 out of 5) from Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings, the highest distinction awarded for legal expertise and professional excellence. He is admitted to practice in both Maryland and the District of Columbia. In addition to his legal work, Mr. Melehy serves as President-Elect and Board Member of the Metropolitan Washington Employment Lawyers Association (MWELA) and is also a Board Member of the Washington Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights and Urban Affairs. Previously, he served as Board President of the Employment Justice Center, a nonprofit advocating for the rights of low-income workers.
Over the years, Mr. Melehy has represented countless employees in hearings and trials at both the state and federal levels, and his appellate advocacy has shaped employment law in Maryland and D.C. through landmark decisions.
