About Zachary T. Hunsinger
As both a lawyer and a licensed social worker, my profound dedication to the betterment of society is fueled by my unwavering commitment to social justice and my aspiration to effect positive change in the lives of individuals. My professional journey encompasses advocacy for the rights of marginalized communities, legal representation for clients in various proceedings, and the identification and rectification of systemic issues perpetuating inequality and injustice.
Prior to embarking on my legal career, I engaged with disenfranchised populations across different regions of the world. During my tenure with the United Nations in southern Mexico, I conducted interviews with refugee children and women, aiming to identify signs of child and adult sexual abuse. Additionally, I conducted field research on child domestic servitude in Tanzania. In South Africa, at the University of Pretoria's Child Law Centre, I contributed to the representation of high-risk youth, including the preparation of a brief on the concept of triple jeopardy for students, which garnered a favorable ruling from the country's Constitutional Court, equivalent to the supreme court.
The insights gained from these experiences, particularly in the context of trauma healing, continue to inform my work with non-profit organizations and social justice initiatives. I established and executed a mental health screening protocol for a volunteer program, developed a training curriculum addressing military sexual assault for behavioral health practitioners, organized events to connect service providers with families who had suffered losses, and conducted analyses of legislation impacting the target population of a non-profit. Remarkably, I also played a pivotal role in increasing the revenue of one non-profit program by 25% in just six months.
