About James P. Alder

James, often known as Jim, prioritizes the sanctity of family relationships over material wealth. He firmly believes that comprehensive planning is key to safeguarding the family unit in the face of potential incapacity or loss of a parent, simultaneously providing an effective means to manage his clients' affairs. His goal is to support and guide his clients in mitigating factors that often lead to the breakdown and loss of these cherished connections.

A dedicated advocate, Jim has contributed significantly to the Alzheimer’s Association Utah Chapter. His roles as a Board member and President of the Board of Directors, along with providing legal counsel, demonstrate his commitment to the association's mission to combat Alzheimer’s disease through research advancement, caregiving enhancement, and the promotion of brain health to reduce dementia risk. His involvement in the State Alzheimer’s Task Force and subsequent service on the State Alzheimer’s Plan Coordination Council underscore his dedication to curbing the profound impacts of this debilitating illness.

Beyond his contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association, from 2011 to 2015, Jim served on the Board of Directors of the Kostopulos Dream Foundation, an organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of individuals with disabilities through recreational and educational programs.

Hailing from northern Utah, Jim obtained his Bachelor of Arts from Utah State University in 1993 and completed his law degree at Brigham Young University’s J. Reuben Clark School of Law in 1997. His pursuit of a Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Environmental and Natural Resource Law from the University of Utah in 2001 further underscores his commitment to diverse fields. Jim actively engages in various legal associations, including membership in the Salt Lake Estate Planning Council and participation in the Utah Bar's Estate Planning and Elder Law Sections.
