About Joseph Alex Marshall

Joseph Alexander "Alex" Marshall graduated from the University of North Carolina School of Law at Chapel Hill in 2015 and received his undergraduate degree cum laude from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. Alex has earned the prestigious AV Preeminent Peer Rating from Martindale Hubbell and has been recognized as one of North Carolina Super Lawyers' Rising Stars as well as being named among the Best Lawyers in America's Ones to Watch. He holds membership in the North Carolina State Bar, the Wake County Bar Association, the 10th Judicial District Bar, and the National Black Lawyers Top 40 Under 40. In 2021, he became part of the criminal defense section at DeMent Askew & Johnson.

For nearly six years, Alex dedicated his service to Wake County as an Assistant Public Defender, amassing invaluable experience by handling a diverse range of cases, from DUIs and traffic violations to murder cases. He approaches his trial practice with unwavering dedication and serves as a fearless advocate for his clients.

In his own words, Alex states, "Individuals accused of crimes often require a supportive guide through a challenging and potentially intimidating journey, offering a fresh perspective on their self-perception. They need to know they have someone in their corner who will wholeheartedly fight for them in their most trying times."

Born into a family of ministers, Alex himself is a licensed minister drawn to a life of service driven by gratitude. He resides in Durham with his wife and children, surrounded by their close-knit family. In his leisure time, he is an enthusiast of physical fitness and an active athlete, as well as a dedicated coach for youth soccer and basketball. Additionally, he pursues his hobby as a do-it-yourself builder.
